Alfa Romeo GT 1600 JUNIOR, Rosso Amaranto

The Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior was introduced in 1972, to plug the gap between the GT 1300 Junior and the larger-engined 2000 GTV.  The engine was substantially the same as that of the Giulia Sprint GTV discontinued four years previously, and had the same engine type number. The final drive ratio was again 9/41 as standard on all 105 Series coupés with the 1290 cc and 1570 cc engine. From 1974 on, the GT 1300 Junior and GT 1600 Junior were rationalised into a common range of models with the 2000 GTV and were rebadged as 1.3 GT Junior and 1.6 GT Junior, sharing most of the interior and exterior features with the larger-engined car. The GT Junior has a tight suspension and weighed in at just 930 kg  for the 1.3 variant.Because of this, the car would often go onto three wheels, lifting the inside front wheel off the road when driven enthusiastically. Production ended in 1976-77 and totalled 91,964 units of 1.3 lt. Juniors and 13,120 units of the 1.6 lt. Juniors.

According to the Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo, our car, chassis 2198222, was produced on October 30th, 1972 and delivered on the 17th November to the Italian market and its still equipped with its original AR 00536*25830 engine. The car was first purchased by a lady in Roma, and she sold the car 2 years later to Mr Vassilis Kaliakoudas, from Greece, famous Alfa and Ferrari collectionneur. We have more than 200 original 10x15 pictures from the restoration that will come with the car. Finished in the correct Amaranto AR509, with its dark red interior, believed the rarest colour combination, this particular 1600 Junior was subject of a no-expense-spared restoration.

The body was entrusted to the best restorer in Greece, who usually dedicates his precious time to more valuable Italian machinery from Maranello.  In addition, the mechanicals were comprehensively overhauled, and the restoration works are documented in an accompanying album of photographs.  We have more than 200 original 10x15 pictures from the restoration that will come with the car. After this restoration, Mr Vassalis keep the car inside his personnel collection in Athens, and used the car occasionally in the dry and nice Greece climate. Only a minimal distance has been driven since the engine was comprehensively rebuilt. So the car comes today in stunning condition, looks and drive perfectly.

The car also comes with the Certificato di Proprieta and the Greece registration document.  Comes also with the car all the original Alfa Romeo documents, Uso e manutenzione, Servicio, AlfaRomeo dealer original sleeve, 2 set of original ignition keys…

Very hard to fond such a stunning Junior Alfa Romeo with such a great History and famous owner.
